RWT: Word Repetition (or maybe just me ranting)
Alright, here's the issue: word repetition WITHIN THE SENTENCE.
In case it's not clear what I mean, I'll paste in some example sentences from the actual edited and published book I'm reading as we speak (well not as we speak exactly, but I'm angry so I'm being more dramatic than usual).
Example 1: "Not now, either, even though we had more in common now than she realized."
Do you see it? Is it driving you crazy too?
This author used the word now twice IN THE SAME SENTENCE.
It kills me. And not just because it sounds irritatingly repetitive when I read it, but because I work SO hard to avoid having this happen in my own writing. It makes me feel a little yucky that I'm busting my butt to avoid repetition while a sentence like this managed to sneak past the author, publisher, and the team of editors they were likely paying for. So either they're not noticing, or they just see it and shrug and think oh well, no one will care.
I CARE.
Example 2: "I personally never thought she was that impressive, even back when she was on that talent show years ago, but I would never say that out loud."
Are you kidding me? This line is even worse. Not only does it have the word that THREE TIMES, it also repeats the word never twice!
Please, PLEASE tell me I'm not the only person that notices stuff like this. Does it bother any of you guys too? I know nobody's perfect. In fact I probably have a handful of typos in this post. But still, it BOTHERS me to come across anything my type-A brain considers sloppy.
Let me know what you all think in the comments and feel free to just tell me I'm being ridiculous.
Thanks for the tip!
